artist statement

What I enjoy most is making photographs of people, places (built environment and natural), and performance events (music, literary, dance, multi-disciplinary).  I don't limit myself, and I find joy in capturing images of whatever catches my eye.

Although I do offer traditional portrait sittings in a studio, I prefer to shoot on location or in a natural environment when possible.

artist bio

Chicago native J. Alan Love started his career in the arts as a writer, and eventually grew into roles as an arts administrator for organizations such as Guild Complex, The Writer's Voice and 5A Arts and Entertainment, to name a few.

A hobbyist photographer for years, in 2012 he accepted an offer that allowed him the time and resources to study and practice photography in a more serious and focused way.  As part of his role as the Program and Events Manager at the University of Chicago Arts Incubator in Washington Park, he managed the audio/visual needs for the facility, including videography, photography, sound engineering for live performances, photo/video content archiving, as well as  online broadcasting of recorded performances.

After leaving the university in 2015, Love relocated to Austin, TX and continued his photographic work under the imprint of J. Alan Love Photography.  Since launching, he has been privileged to shoot an array of subjects, including music events, vanity photos and head shots, as well as architecture and commercial real estate.
